|Karen Barnes -
Manager / SENCO
NVQ Level 3
Hello, my name is Karen Barnes and I have been working at New Millside for over 10 years, starting as an Assistant and now SENDCO.
I have 3 children ranging from 34 to 16 years old and 3 grandchildren age 11 to 2. I think this gives me a great understanding of the concerns, wishes, aspirations and needs from all perspectives. I am committed to the idea of ‘every child is a unique child’ and am passionate about getting to know fully every child at New Millside, so that I can help them to feel completely safe and understood. I feel strongly that a positive first experience of education is essential and at this age that means a place where you feel acknowledge, praised and encouraged.
I have a Diploma Level 3 in Childcare & Development, SENDCo training, Advanced Speech & Language training and a variety of child development courses including English as an Additional Language and Makaton, Pediatric First Aid & Epilepsy. I am currently working towards a Diploma in Autism Awareness and have a good basic understanding of French & Spanish.
|Jacky Hobbs -
I am the Business Manager for New Millside and have been since 1998. I originally started on the committee as Secretary, sadly we were on the verge of closure due to a lack of staff, myself and another member of the committee agreed to take on the day to day running with immediate effect. My role has grown considerably over the years, starting at 5 hours per week and now around 35-40. I am responsible for the registration of all new children, approx. 40 each year, maintaining the waiting list, fees, funding and generally running the business side of the pre-school alongside the committee.
I have no childcare qualifications, apart from pediatric first aid, but both my girls, aged 23 & 21 attended New Millside and now my grandson is attending. I have seen many changes over the years, including moving to our current building approx. 8 years ago and I am looking forward to our plans for the future.

Hello, my name is Pippa Tripp and I have been at New Millside since September 2016. Although, I have only been here a short while, I was quickly made to feel very welcome by all the children, staff and parents of the pre-school.
I have been married for 9 years and have son of 8 years old. I also have young nieces and nephews, who I look after on a regular basis and I also babysit for local families.
I am currently employed as a 1-2-1 Assistant and I support children who have additional needs within the setting. I have previously worked at a local residential school for teenagers who have Autism, but more recently I have been working at a school in High Wycombe as an SEN Learning Support Assistant (EYFS) for children with a wide range of learning disabilities including; physical, sensory and some behavioural difficulties.
I feel very privileged to work with young children and it is very rewarding to watch them grow and develop into strong, independent and resilient individuals. I am passionate about giving children as many opportunities and stimulating experiences as possible to aid their learning and development, as well as to help build their confidence/self-esteem.
At present, I do not have any specific child care qualifications, but I am hoping to start my NVQ Level 3 at the beginning of 2017. However, I have undertaken a lot of in-house training within my previous job roles relating to safe-guarding, behaviour management and communication.
